After the Fall of Constantinople, the Orthodox Church in Greece, the Balkans, and the Middle East entered into a different phase marked by westernization, ethnocentrism, but also by a spiritual revival. For different reasons, the Orthodox Church in Russia had a similar experience from 1700 to 1918.
